The Challenge

In celebration of the Philadelphia Home Show, local celebrity experts and emerging style, décor and DIY bloggers are taking part in the 3rd annual Upcycle Challenge: Let It Grow!  Experts have sourced and repurposed items from Habitat for Humanity ReStore into planted pieces of art. The planters will be on display throughout the show for two weekends only: January 17-19 & 23-25, 2015

I thought I'd show you all how I made this chair planter. Since Spring is coming , You might want to make one for your self...
It's was much for time consuming than I had hoped!

First I ripped the whole thing to shreds and painted it white.
Then, I stapled chicken wire to the base of the chair so I would have something for the moss and succulents to grab onto.

I hot glued the moss to the chicken wire on the back of the chair.
For the bottom, I added a layer of mesh to hold in the soil.
I added as little soil as possible so the chair wouldn't be too heavy.
Then added the plants.

Want one of the upcycles?
Each planter will be up for auction after the show!  All proceeds from the bids will be used to support the ongoing work of Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia.
In the mean time head over to the Habitat for Humanity facebook page and vote for your favorite upcycled planter (umm, mine. Right?)
